DigitalFoto has recently released a universal ring grip for gimbals: the DigitalFoto Magic RING II. This ring is compatible with most gimbals on the market, including the Zhiyun Crane 3S/2S/2, the DJI Ronin RS2/RSC2/S, and the Moza Aircross 2. It features a built-in V-Mount battery plate to power your entire rig and four D-Tap power outlets to power accessories. Let’s take a closer look at it!

DigitalFoto has been making gimbal accessories for quite some time now, including the THANOS gimbal support vest and, more recently, the THANOS-PRO II gimbal support system. All these systems are designed to distribute the weight of one-handed gimbals to your entire body and not to just only your arms/shoulders.

Indeed, all these gimbals like the Zhiyun Crane 3S or the DJI Ronin RS2 can now take heavier payloads. It means that they can be hard/heavy to operate for an extended period of time due to the operator’s arm position. If you want to distribute the weight of your gimbal setup a bit more but don’t want to invest in a full vest support system, a ring around your gimbal, that you can operate with two hands (like the MoVi Pro, for example) could be a more affordable and compact solution.

DigitalFoto recently released the Magic RING II, a universal ring grip, that’s compatible with nearly every one-handed gimbal on the market.

DigitalFoto Magic RING II – Features

The DigitalFoto Magic RING II is a universal ring made out of aluminum alloy, that weighs 2.65Kg/4.40lbs. It can take payloads up to 20Kg/44lbs. The idea behind this product is to attach your one-handed gimbal at the bottom of the ring, so you can operate it with two hands on the sides or grab it via the top handle.

This product is “universal” because you can mount nearly every one-handed gimbal on the market to it. In short, it is compatible with the Zhiyun Crane 3S/2S/2, the DJI Ronin RS2/RSC2/S, the Moza Aircross 2, Feiyu AK series gimbals, and many more. I like versatile pieces of gear like these, that are not gimbal-specific and that you can continue using even if you upgrade your gear later down the road.

The Magic RING II features adjustable legs so you can safely put your gimbal on the ground at the end of a take.

Another nice thing is the built-in V-Mount battery plate at the bottom of the ring – under the gimbal to better balance the weight – that sends power to two power distribution boxes located at the top of the ring. You can use these distribution boxes to power additional accessories like a monitor/wireless video transmitter. There are two D-Tap ports on each box, so you have four D-Tap ports in total that can output up to 16.8V.

Talking about mounting accessories to the DIGITALFOTO Magic RING II, the package comes with an ARRI style rosette clamp to mount a handle/follow focus handle like the Tilta Nucleus-M handle grip.

You can also mount your gimbal upside down if you wish. The DigitalFoto comes with a removable top handle with a cold shoe mount, so you can attach accessories.

Of course, if you start loading your gimbal and the Magic RING II, it’ll be a heavy rig to operate even with two hands. To make your life easier, you can hang the ring to an Easyrig and remove some stress from your forearms.
