Following the success of the previous versions, Edelkrone just introduced its latest camera slider: the Edelkrone SliderPLUS v5. This fifth version features a more robust design, a set of new legs with a smart locking mechanism, and if you set your slider at an angle, it can now support up to 5.5 lbs/2.5 kg at 22.5° degrees inclination. Also, part of this release is a new Slide Module v3 to motorize your slider. The Slide Module v3 features numerous improvements like a better wireless connection & more extended range, improved power management that automatically shuts it off, a new status screen, and it is quieter than the previous models. Let’s take a closer look at all these new Edelkrone products!

    Edelkrone SliderPLUS

The first Edelkrone SliderPLUS slider, with its revolutionary design, came out back in 2013. At that time, this slider was the only in the market that physically takes up a lot less space than travel distance due to an intelligent rail mechanism. This is a slider with portability in mind.

Fast forward to today, and Edelkrone just introduced the SliderPLUS v5 that brings a couple of improvements to the table. Let’s make it clear: if you already own the SliderPLUS v4, this v5 will not bring you groundbreaking enhancements. However, if you’re new to the Edelkrone ecosystem, this unit can be a good starting point.

Edelkrone SliderPLUS v5: Regular or PRO?

Depending on your needs, the Edelkrone SliderPLUS v5 is available in two sizes: Compact and Long. Also, each slider is available in two versions: a “regular” one, or the PRO version. Before it gets confusing, here is a summary of each Edelkrone SliderPLUS v5 features:

    • Edelkrone SliderPLUS v5 Compact: Camera travel on a tripod of 1.3 ft/40 cm and a maximum load capacity of 15 lbs/6.8 kg. If you put it on the ground, you get half the camera travel distance, but the maximum payload capacity increases to 50 lbs/22.5kg. In term of size, the Compact version measure 13.22 x 4.25 x 2.79 in/336 x 108 x 71 mm.
    • Edelkrone SliderPLUS v5 Long: Camera travel on a tripod of 2.6 ft/80 cm and a maximum load capacity of 10 lbs/4.5 kg. Same thing as previously about the camera travel distance if you put it on the ground, for a maximum payload capacity of 40 lbs/18 kg. The Long version will take you more space in the bag at 21.10 x 4.25 x 2.79 in/536 x 108 x 71 mm long.

    • Edelkrone SliderPLUS v5 PRO Compact: Camera travel on a tripod of 1.6 ft/50 cm and a maximum load capacity of 25 lbs/11.3 kg. If you put the PRO Compact on the ground, you still get half the camera travel distance, but the maximum payload capacity increases to 50 lbs/22.5kg. In terms of size, it is slightly longer than the regular Compact version at 17.20 x 4.25 x 2.79 in/437 x 108 x 71 mm.
    • Edelkrone SliderPLUS v5 PRO Long: Camera travel on a tripod of 2.9 ft/90 cm and a maximum load capacity of 20 lbs/9 kg. You got it, half the travel distance if you put it on the ground, for a maximum payload capacity of 40 lbs/18 kg. Finally, it is the longest of all four at 25.07 x 4.25 x 2.79 in/637 x 108 x 71 mm.

Now that you have a better understanding of which one can suit your needs better let’s take a look at all the things they have in common.

    Edelkrone SliderPLUS v5 Regular/PRO Features

Both the Edelkrone SliderPLUS v5 Regular and PRO are made out of CNC machined aluminum and stainless steel components. The carriage – where the camera/tripod head sits – feature steel ball bearings, and it slides on temperature-treated aluminum rods. On top of the carriage, there is a 3/8″-16 mounting screw that can retract inside the carriage to protect your bag from scratches and tears. There is a safety lock on the carriage to lock it in the middle, which makes moving from one location to another easier without your camera package moving onto the slider.

At the bottom of the SliderPLUS v5, there is a 3/8″-16 port to mount the slider on the tripod of your choice. However, the PRO version features a tripod mounting wheel that allows you to install the slider on a tripod without having to spin it around. All you have to do is align your tripod mounting screw with the tripod mounting wheel of the slider, and turn the wheel to screw it.

All sliders come with a set of built-in foldable legs. With this new legs design, you can adjust the angle of each leg separately, or fold them up for easy storage. Also, there is a unique locking mechanism that looks much easier to lock/adjust. Finally, the Edelkrone SliderPLUS v5 features new magnetic belt clips that make replacing the belts faster in case you need to do so.

Last but not least, all sliders come with one pair of geared belts with magnetic belt clips, a cleaning kit, some Allen keys, and a couple of extra attachment screws. Something important to note, too is that, if you already have Edelkrone equipment, the v5 is compatible with all your previous Edelkrone add-ons. If you already have the Steady Module or a HeadPLUS remote head, for example, you’re good to go.

    Edelkrone Slide Module v3

The Edelkrone Slide Module v3 allows you to move your slider back and forth automatically. It attaches to one end of the slider so you can create perfectly stable slides. Also, you can program it manually or via the Edelkrone App/Controller to do time-lapses and stop motion videos.

One nice thing, compared to other motorized sliders on the market, is that you can still move your SliderPLUS with your hands to set positions while the Slide Module is attached. The Slide Module v3 is powered via two Canon LP-E6 type batteries or two Sony NP-F type batteries. The cells and battery brackets are sold separately. According to Edelkrone, you can power it for two hours with one set of batteries, or shoot 12000 photographs in Time-Lapse mode. Also, you can power it via an AC adapter (optional) with a barrel plug.

So what’s new with the v3? First of all, it features a small high contrast sharp OLED screen to keep track of the status of your movement. It is more powerful than previous versions, and quieter too, which is crucial if you’re recording sound.
