Lens manufacturer SLR Magic just announced two new lenses compatible with MFT mirrorless cameras: the SLR Magic MicroPrime CINE 17mm T/1.5 and 35mm T/1.5. These MicroPrimes CINE lenses are fully manual, they have industry-standard 0.8mm pitch gears on the focus plus aperture rings, and they are pretty lightweight at around 630/600g, respectively. Let’s take a closer look.

SLR Magic MicroPrime CINE 17mm T/1.5 – Features

One year after the announcement of the 21mm T/1.6 and 50mm T/1.4, SLR Magic continues to expand its MicroPrime CINE lineup with the addition of the SLR Magic MicroPrime CINE 17mm T/1.5 and 35mm T/1.5.

The 17mm T/1.5 is close to being an equivalent to a 35mm on a Full Frame sensor and should be a nice go-to prime for cinema applications. This fully manual lens has a micro four-thirds lens mount with an image circle of 32mm, making it compatible with cameras such as the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K, Panasonic GH5/GH5s, and so on.

Designed to fit lightweight cameras, the lens weights around 22.2oz/630g and a compact length of 87mm. On the focus and aperture ring, you’ll find industry-standard 0.8mm pitch gears for follow focus usages.

The front diameter is cinema-standard at 85mm to attach clamp-on matte boxes easily. The lens also features an internal 82mm thread if you want to attach a screw-in filter directly to the lens. The filter mount does not rotate as you change focus, which is really nice.

The lens design of the SLR Magic MicroPrime CINE 17mm T/1.5 consists of nine elements in eight groups. It has a minimum focus distance of 7″/18cm.

The SLR Magic MicroPrime CINE 35mm T/1.5 have a lot of similarities with the 17mm T/1.5, including:

    • A micro four thirds lens mount with an image circle of 32mm.
    • A length of 87mm with a slightly lower weight of 21.2oz/600g.
    • 0.8 MOD gears on both the aperture and focus rings.
    • An 85mm front diameter and 82mm internal thread.

However, the 35mm T/1.5 has small differences. For example, the lens design consists of seven elements in six groups, and the minimum focus distance is only 1.3 feet/30cm.

    Price and Availability

We haven’t heard details about pricing and availability of these lenses yet, but will update this post when we know more.

The SLR Magic MicroPrime CINE line for MFT cameras now consists of the 17mm T/1.5, 21mm T/1.6, 35mm T/1.5, and 50mm T/1.4.
