Teradek Serv Pro, the image streaming device for live 1080p video over WiFi to up to 10 iOS/Android and macOS devices, got a firmware update that brings off-set monitoring feature for sending the live image anywhere in the world via Core Cloud. The recipients only have to have the VUER app installed to view the image.

Teradek Serv Pro is a hardware device that streams live 1080p video over WiFi to up to 10 iOS/Android and macOS devices running the VUER application. Each feed is viewable with 2 frames of delay and includes a stereo audio signal embedded within the stream. Serv includes both HDMI and 3G-SDI inputs.

The device has been on the market for a while already. We interviewed Teradek back at NAB 2017 when they launched the Serv Pro and we also published a short review of the on-set monitoring system later that year.

In addition to the on-set monitoring, Teradek recently equipped Serv Pro with an off-set monitoring feature. In reaction to recent difficult working conditions, where some members of the crew cannot be present on the set or anywhere near the set, Teradek Serv Pro can now stream the picture anywhere in the world via cloud. Let’s take a short look at the new feature.

    Teradek Serv Pro Off-Set Monitoring

On top of Serv Pro’s on-set monitoring with up to 10 iOS, macOS, or Android devices, the recent update offers also an off-set monitoring sending the signal via cloud anywhere in the world.

You need to download the latest free firmware update version 2.1.5 from Teradek Downloads website in order to have the offs-set monitoring feature. For internet access, you will also need Teradek Link which is a WiFi access point designed for the video world. It offers a 1000ft range, rugged chassis, multiple mounting options, and a Gold- or V-mount battery plate.

Teradek Link can be connected to the modem and to the internet via ethernet cable or via Teradek Node to provide cellular internet connection. The feed is then being sent to Teradek’s Core Cloud service where it gets distributed to all the end monitoring devices.

Teradek has a useful Youtube video explaining the whole setup process:

It is important to note that Core Cloud is a paid, subscription-based, service. The price depends on your needs and how often you need to stream the image.

Just like with on-set monitoring, the people who want to view the feed only need to download the free VUER app which is available for iOS, macOS, and Android. The video feed is encrypted to prevent unauthorized people to see it.

Teradek says even the off-set monitoring is low-latency. I am unsure if it maintains the two frames delay of the on-set monitoring, that would be very impressive considering it can be viewed anywhere in the world. What do you think?

Are you using Teradek Serv Pro for on-set monitoring? Do you need off-set monitoring too? What do you think of this new update? Let us know in the comments underneath the article.
