Datacolor – a color calibration devices specialist – announced the release of their next generation calibration device: the SpyderX. Available in two versions, the SpyderX Pro and the SpyderX Elite, let’s take a look at how they can improve color consistency results for filmmakers. Monitor Calibration Made Easy When you start searching about monitor calibration, there are usually two big names that pop-up: X-Rite and Datacolor. Datacolor produces an entire range of tools under its Spyder brand. From monitor and projector calibration to printer profiling, their devices can do it all. Datacolor released the SpyderX, a brand new calibration probe that replaces their Spyder 5. The SpyderX features brand new hardware compared to the previous version, but the software behind it is nearly identical. The new version should provide better color accuracy and low light capabilities. Also, they improved the calibration time, and Datacolor claims the SpyderX can calibrate a screen in less than two minutes. The faster monitor calibration process is a nice addition considering you should calibrate your monitor every month. SpyderX Pro or SpyderX Elite? The SpyderX comes in two versions: the SpyderX Pro and the SpyderX Elite. Both versions feature the same color probe; the only difference is the included software: SpyderX Pro: if you are a photographer, a graphic designer, or someone looking to get more accurate colors for your display, the Pro version is for you. The SpyderX Pro is a fast and easy monitor calibration without diving too deep in the settings. SpyderX Elite: the Elite version has more advanced settings for filmmakers who want more delicate control over their monitor calibration. Otherwise, if you are a photographer, none of the Pro nor the Elite version of SpyderX can create printer profiles for working with different papers. Pricing and Availability The SpyderX Pro will cost you $169.99, and the SpyderX Elite is $269.99. Both versions are available right now. In terms of comparisons, the X-Rite i1Display Pro is $228.95.
