The recently announced DJI Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced drone features an improved thermal sensor with 16x thermal zoom, accurate RTK positioning technology, a 48MP camera with 32x digital zoom and 4K resolution. The drone also supports increased data security protocols and multiple useful accessories.

Chinese company DJI produces drones not only for filmmakers. Its Enterprise line includes drones for various other purposes in the fields of safety, construction, infrastructure, etc. These machines often share the same base with the filmmaking drones, but offer different peripherals and functions. Recently, DJI announced the Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced drone – a successor to the original Mavic 2 Enterprise. Let’s take a short look at its features and specs.

    DJI Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced

The new Enterprise Advanced sports two gimbal-stabilized cameras in one module. Firstly, a 640×512 px thermal resolution camera with a 30Hz refresh rate, ±2°C temperature measurement accuracy, and 16x thermal zoom. Secondly, a 48MP visual camera with a 1/2” CMOS sensor that can capture 4K videos and offer 32x digital zoom. Pilots can switch between visual, thermal, or split-view feeds for different project needs.

When it comes to the temperature measurements, the drone offers Spot Meter (displaying the average temperature of an object) and Area Measurement (displays the average, lowest, and highest temperature, as well as the corresponding locations of each area).

The DJI RTK Module (available separately) can equip the drone with centimeter-level accuracy positioning and supports NTRIP. Operators can create up to 240 waypoints to conduct automated, detailed inspection missions in complex environments.

The Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced delivers a maximum flight time of up to 31 minutes, top speed of 72 km/h (45 mph), and up to 10 kilometers / 6.2 miles (for FCC, up to 6 km / 3.7 miles for regions using CE) controlling distance with the OcuSync 2.0 data transmission system.

    Data Security and Flight Safety

When it comes to security, the drone features Local Data Mode (when operated with the DJI Pilot App) which stops the app from sending or receiving any data over the internet. Furthermore, the radio link between the aircraft and the remote controller features AES-256 encryption. Finally, the drone features password protection for its 24GB of onboard data storage.

The drone further includes DJI’s AirSense system that receives ADS-B signals from airplanes and helicopters to warn drone pilots of other air traffic nearby as well as 6-directional obstacle sensing (left and right sensors are only active in Tripod Mode). Pilots will also be able to fly with Discreet Mode which disables the LED navigation lights. Finally, the drone’s batteries are self-heating for operating in cold weather conditions as low as -10° C (14° F).

    Modular Accessories

The drone is compatible with a handful of modular accessories such as:

    • Spotlight – A small light with a brightness of 2,400 lumens for increased visibility.
    • Speaker – An audio speaker with a maximum projection of 100 decibels (1-meter distance) which is able to store multiple voice recordings and play clips on loop. This can be useful for communication with ground teams during emergency situations.
    • Beacon – Designed with U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Night Waiver standards in mind, the beacon features a bright flashing strobe visible 4.8 kilometers (3 miles) away. This contributes to safety in low-light conditions or at night by providing additional airspace awareness for operators of nearby drones and traditional aircrafts.
    • DJI Smart Controller – The controller with a bright 5.5-inch 1080p display to provide visibility even in direct sunlight.
