Duclos Lenses have announced the launch of the FUJINON MK-R: an RF Mount Conversion for FUJINON MK zoom lenses. This lens mount conversion is available for the FUJINON MK 18-55mm T/2.9 and the MK 50-135mm T/2.9 S35 zoom lenses. If you plan on getting a RED Komodo, this option could be attractive for you.

Duclos Lenses FUJINON MK-R – Features

The Duclos Lenses FUJINON MK-R was first announced back in June 2020, and you can read our introduction article here. The idea behind this lens mount conversion is to make one of the most affordable cinema zoom lenses on the market compatible with the upcoming RED Komodo 6K camera.

Indeed, the FUJINON MK 18-55mm T/2.9 and MK 50-135mm T/2.9 cover APS-C (Super 35) sensors. However, Duclos Lenses mention that there is “minor vignetting at small apertures (F/11 and below) between 18mm and 20mm” on the MK 18-55mm T/2.9.”

    How Does It Work?

The Duclos Lenses FUJINON MK-R is available in two options:

    • You can buy a new MK-R lens (or lens set) from Duclos Lenses directly with an R-mount
    • You already have a FUJINON MK lens and just want to have your lens mount changed

If you have a lens you want to modify, you can’t do the mod yourself. A Duclos Lenses technician must install the mount conversion. Also, the process is non-destructive and can be reversed, though it’s not easy, and Duclos Lenses advertise this modification as a “fixed and rigid conversion.”

In terms of lens warranty, Duclos Lenses worked closely with FUJINON to ensure the factory warranty is maintained.

    Pricing and Availability

As a current owner of a FUJINON MK zoom, you’ll be able to send your lens to Duclos Lenses to perform the conversion for $495.00. If you purchased your MK zooms directly from Duclos Lenses, the cost of the conversion would be discounted to $405.

If you want to buy a new FUJINON MK-R 18-55 T/2.9 it will cost you $3799.00, while the MK-R 50-135mm T/2.9 is $3999.00. Finally, a Duo MK-R Zoom kit is available for $7798.00.

Duclos Lenses will begin shipping the FUJINON MK-R lenses in mid-September. For more information, please visit the Duclos Lenses website here.

In terms of comparison, the Laowa OOOM 25-100mm T/2.9 Cine that covers Full Frame sensors retail for $5000.00. Also, the DZOFILM Pictor 20-55mm & 50-125mm T/2.8 zoom lenses that cover Super 35 sensors are $4499.00. If you’re a RED Komodo shooter, you now have a lot of “affordable” cinema zoom lens options on the market. The ZEISS LWZ.3 21-100mm covers Super35 as well and is a bit more expensive at around $10,000, but the mount is user-interchangeable (though the R mount is not available).

What do you think about this Duclos Lenses FUJINON MK-R conversion? Do you already have FUJINON MK zoom lenses? Are you still waiting for the RED Komodo to start shipping? Don’t hesitate to let us know in the comments below!
