Nikon has announced two macro additions to the Z-mount mirrorless lens lineup: the Nikkor Z MC 105mm F/2.8 VR S and Nikkor Z MC 50mm F/2.8. Both lenses are the first Z-mount optics to feature a 1:1 reproduction ratio.

Nikon says that because both lenses are able to get extremely close to subjects and fill the frame edge-to-edge, they are ideal for capturing macro detail with a “fantastic combination of versatility and precision.”

Nikkor Z MC 105mm f/2.8 VR S


Nikon says that the 105mm f/2.8 lens is a high-quality S-lens that has been engineered for a wide variety of shooting styles and was designed to offer “intense sharpness and beautiful bokeh.” S-line lenses include NANO Crystal and ARNEO coatings that Nikon says limit flare and ghosting, even with backlighting. It has a close focusing distance of 0.96-feet.





It is equipped with Nikon’s Multi-Focus STM system that the company says offers consistent, smooth, silent, and accurate focus thanks to a custom autofocus algorithm that accounts for even the smallest distance changes that would alter the effective aperture. It also has a limiter switch to reduce the working range to a maximum of 1.6 feet to make the acquisition of focus easier on close-up subjects.

The lens features a lens function shortcut button and weather sealing that allows it to function even in adverse conditions. Below are a set of images that were captured with the lens:













The Nikkor Z MC 105mm f/2.8 VR S will be available in late June for $1,000.

Nikkor Z MC 50mm f/2.8


Nikon’s second announcement is a 50mm f/2.8 macro lens that the company says is designed for “spontaneous street snapshots” as well as the ability to capture small details with “stunning clarity.”





It has a 0.53-foot minimum focusing distance and promises “gorgeous bokeh” in its 9.2-ounce lightweight design. While it lacks the S-line specialty optics, Nikon still touts that it will offer high-quality images for strong flexibility in a variety of shooting conditions.

The 50mm is equipped with a stepping motor as well as a focusing limiter switch, dust and “drip” resistance, and a control ring that can be assigned to a variety of functions. Below are a set of sample images taken with the lens:

















The Nikkor Z MC 50mm f/2.8 will be available in late June for $650.

Two More Primes Coming


Additionally, Nikon announced that it is currently developing two more Z-mount lenses that will be released before the end of the year: a 28mm f/2.8 and a 40mm f/2.

The NIKKOR Z 28mm f/2.8 will be a wide-angle prime lens ideal for everyday snapshots and street photography, while the NIKKOR Z 40mm f/2 will allow users to enjoy a natural field of view and dramatic bokeh. Both primes are small, simple to use and great companions for both full-frame and DX-format Z series users.

Nikon did not note specific anticipated pricing for either of these lenses.
