If you are a filmmaker or video editor that needs a second display for editing on the road, a new company has just launched an exciting Indiegogo campaign that could make your life easier: Odake BladeX. The standard 1080P Odake BladeX is a touchscreen display. If you need a better resolution and don’t care about the touchscreen capabilities, the BladeX Pro version has a 4K display. Also, these ultra-slim 15.6″ monitors are lightweight and feature a built-in battery. Let’s take a closer look at it!

Odake BladeX and BladeX Pro Displays

If you do video editing regularly, you know that working at the office with a 21:9 display or two displays is a must-have. But when you are on the road, you are stuck with a laptop and a 13”/15″/17″ screen, which is not ideal to comfortably edit your footage. Here comes, according to Odake, “BladeX, the most lightweight and compact on-the-go external monitors available today.”

These 15.6″ monitors are only 4.5mm thick (maximum 13.5mm height with the base) and weigh just under two pounds. Two versions are available: BladeX and BladeX Pro. The BladeX is a 1080P display that supports touchscreen function through the USB-C port. The BladeX Pro is a 4K display but without any touchscreen capabilities.

The two displays are 300 nits bright with 1000:1 contrast ratio and a 60Hz refresh rate. It should work ok in interior situations, but don’t expect to see much when using it outside in bright sunlight. The BladeX Pro is better suited for filmmakers and creatives because of the extra-resolution and the fact that it can cover 100% of the Adobe RGB color space.

You can run BladeX of an AC adapter, but the real game-changer feature here is the built-in 3000 mAh battery. This battery is located in the base and should provide you up to 3 hours of juice according to Odake.

    BladeX Base

The BladeX base that also acts as a stand is where the different connection ports, the speakers, and the battery are located.

In terms of connectivity, there is one HDMI input port, 2 USB-C ports, two regular USB ports, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. One USB-C port is for charging, and the other one is for video input. Keep in mind that the BladeX touchscreen functions only work with USB-C, so it may not work with older Mac/PC laptops.

By using either the BladeX HDMI or USB-C input, you can plug a wide variety of devices including your laptop, iPad, smartphone, gaming console, camera, and so on.

The Odake BladeX/BladeX Pro comes with three USB-C to USB-C cables, four USB-C to USB cables, and two HDMI to HDMI cables.

    Pricing and Availability

The BladeX is $209, and the BladeX Pro is $309. The expected shipping date is November 2019.

The Odake BladeX campaign is already fully funded, and it ends up August 7th. Otherwise, please keep in mind that it is the first Indiegogo campaign by Odake. The product is a fully working prototype, but Indiegogo is not a shop nor market place. There are always certain risks when backing up a project!
