Once again there is a new cage in town! This time SHAPE has taken the popular Atomos Shinobi 7″ monitor and turned it into a very sturdy yet handy portable director’s monitor with two handles and some other useful features. Shape is known for high-end mechanical accessories used with cameras and, for example, monitors. Whenever the Canadian company sees fit, they will integrate Canadian maple wood handles into their products and this new cage is no different. From personal experience I can assure you that SHAPE’s maple wood grips are very well made, super comfortable and durable too. So if you’re in need of a decent director’s monitor the Shinobi-SHAPE combo might be worth a very close look. SHAPE cage with handles for Shinobi 7″. With the cage in place, the now-protected shinobi should survive a few drops that he certainly wouldn’t otherwise. Also included is a specially designed HDMI locking system that keeps the dreaded full-size HDMI plugs from coming loose. image credit: SHAPE The main attraction apart from the cage itself are the two included left and right wooden handles complete with padded straps. With the included 15mm clamps, you can place the handles (more specifically, the handle arms) in various positions around the cage. image credit: SHAPE Also, the SHAPE cage with handles for the Shinobi 7″ is compatible with a (seperately sold) SHAPE V-mount or Gold Mount pivoting battery plate for monitor cage (VPMC, GPMC). If you’re dependent on the original Atomos sun hood of the SHinobi 7″ monitor, fear not: it’s still compatible even when using the fully rigged SHAPE cage with handles. image credit: SHAPE Around the cage you will find various ¼-20 and 3/8-16 threaded holes with ARRI anti rotating lock system. This way you can attach your favorite wireless video receiver to the director’s monitor combo and power it via the aforementioned battery plate. Pricing The SHAPE cage with handles for Atomos Shinobi 7″ monitor (what a name!) sells for around $440 (~ €463) and it is available now. Link: SHAPE What do you think of it?
