During NAB 2019, we met up with Udi Tirosh from Spiffy Gear to talk about their new LED light: Spiffy Gear Lumee. The Lumee is the first cinema grade bi-color and RGB accent light that you can wear.



Spiffy Gear is mostly known for its Spekular light that we already reviewed. During NAB 2019, the company has just announced its new Lumee LED accent light.

What makes this little light so unique? At first, it is the first light that you can wear around your wrist. It reminds me of the reflective fluorescent safety bands that you use at night on your bike. But, if you don’t like to wear it, it can wrap around any light stand or pole that you have on set. If it’s not enough, the Lumee is magnetic, and there is an eyelet. Finally, the light weighs next to nothing, so a piece of gaffer tape can temporarily fix it anywhere.

There are two versions of the Spiffy Gear Lumee: a bi-color version that ranges from 2700K to 6500K and an RGB version. On the upper part of the light are three control buttons: two are for the brightness control to quickly dim the Lumee (four levels), and one is to adjust the color temperature (Bi-color version) or color mode (RGB version). Also, the RGB version features some built-in effects like the famous police red/blue flashing mode.

To power the light, there is a built-in battery that should last for an hour. You can recharge the Lumee via a Micro-USB port.



Pricing and Availability


The Spiffy Gear Lumee should retail for around $50 and should be available in May 2019. You can check out all the details on their website too.

Of course, don’t expect the Lumee to light an entire scene, but as a last minute light before pressing the record button, I think it can be a pretty useful piece of equipment.
