During the cinema5D Virtual Show, we had a conversation with Aaron Schweid, CEO and founder of Intellytech, about two of its new LED fixtures: the Intellytech Light Cannon X-100 and MEGA-LiteCloth LED lights. The Light Cannon X-100 is a bi-color focusable 100W COB light at an affordable price, while the MEGA-LiteCloth is a giant 3′ x 4.5′ LED Mat. Let’s take a closer look at these innovative lighting fixtures!

Intellytech Light Cannon X-100 – Light Head

During the cinema5D Virtual Show, Aaron Schweid introduced us to the Intellytech Light Cannon X-100. The X-100 is a bi-color focusable 100W COB light that can go from 2800°K to 6500°K. The color reproduction of this fixture is excellent, with a CRI of 96/TLCI of 97 at 5600°K. If you switch the color temperature of the X-100 to 2800°K, you can reach a CRI and TLCI of 98 each. Below are the entire photometrics results by Intellytech.

At the front of the X-100, there is a focusable lens. By turning the ring behind the lens, you can adjust the light beam from spot to flood (15° to 70°). Also, there is a built-in Bowens mount in front of the lens to attach light modifiers.

The X-100 is entirely built from aircraft-grade aluminum for robustness and heat dissipation. Indeed, there is a fan and heat sink in the light head that is “about as loud as a person breathing,” according to Intellytech. The light head size is 9″ x 5″ x 4.75″ / 22cm x 12.7cm x 10.1cm for a weight of just 5lbs/2.2Kg.

Finally, there are no buttons or controls on the light itself other than the light focus knob and the 7-pin locking power connector. All the powering options and controls are on the controller box.

Intellytech Light Cannon X-100 – Controller Box

The Intellytech Light Cannon X-100 controller box is what powers and controls the light head. The controller box features a built-in AC Adapter and V-Mount/Gold Mount battery plate. The power cable features a locking PowerCon connector, which is nice to avoid accidentally pulling it off.

Next to the power input, there is an antenna port to control the light wirelessly with the optional X-WR wireless remote. Talking about control options, there is one DMX input and one DMX output RJ45 ports on the other side of the controller box.

On top of the controller, there are two buttons and two knobs to adjust the brightness of the light head from 0 to 100% (flicker-free) and change the color temperature.

Finally, the controller box features nine built-in effects: lightning 1/2, TV screen, candle, paparazzi, strobe, high/low beam, double flash, and warm breathing.

    The Intellytech MEGA-LiteCloth

    Intellytech MEGA-LiteCloth LED Mat

    The Intellytech MEGA-LiteCloth is a bi-color – 3000°K to 10.000°K – LED Mat on steroids. With a giant size of 3′ x 4.5′ / 91cm x 121cm it can fold down to just 14″ x 16″ x 1″ / 35.5cm x 40.6cm x 2.54cm. With a power consumption of around 300W, the MEGA-LiteCloth has an output of 7600 Lux at 3ft/91cm. Below are all the CRI/TLCI/output ratings of the LED Mat, according to Intellytech.

The MEGA-LiteCloth comes with a mounting bracket if you want to mount it on a light stand. The mounting bracket features a similar design as the Intellytech Fast Frame that we already reviewed. The LED Mat attaches to the frame with some included grommets.

The MEGA-LiteCloth kit includes a diffuser to soften the light and a grid to control the light spill. However, it looks like you can’t mount the diffuser plus grid at the same time.

At the back of the LED Mat, there is one connector that plugs into a dedicated controller box.

    Intellytech MEGA-LiteCloth Controller Box

The MEGA-LiteCloth controller box has similar features as the one included with the Intellytech Light Cannon X-100:

    • Dimmable from 0 to 100%, flicker-free.
    • Built-in AC adapter. However, the power input port is a male IEC connector.
    • Two V-Mount or Gold Mount battery plates to power the light via batteries.
    • 2.4Ghz antenna port.
    • RJ45 DMX input and output ports.
    • Nine built-in effects: lightning 1/2, TV screen, candle, paparazzi, strobe, high/low beam, double flash, and warm breathing.
    • Four buttons and one knob to adjust the light output/color temperature/effects.

The controller box is entirely built out of aluminum. It looks robust, built to last, but dense and massive.
