Meike has just announced a new lens to its lineup: the Meike 35mm T/2.1 S35-Prime Cine Lens. As its name suggests, this lens covers Super 35 image sensors, and will be available with a PL or EF lens mount. Let’s take a closer look at it!

Chinese lens manufacturer Meike is moving fast – after the launch of the Meike 50mm T/2.1 FF-Prime, they just introduced a new lineup of S35 lenses with this 35mm T/2.1 S35-Prime.

The complete lens set will consist of an 18mm, 25mm, 35mm, 50mm, 75mm, and 105mm all at T/2.1.

This 35mm lens features an image circle of 33.6mm and covers Super 35 sensors with a maximum resolution of 6K – meaning that it is compatible with a wide range of cameras, including the Canon C200, Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 4k/6K, the RED Komodo, and so on.

The housing of the 35mm T/2.1 S35-Prime is made out of aluminum. It will soon be available in either EF mount (940g/2.07lbs) or PL mount (910g/2lbs), yet the lens mount is not user interchangeable.

The lens has industry-standard 0.8mm pitch gears on the focus and aperture ring, while the focus ring has a focus throw of 270 degrees.

    Lens Design

The design of this 35mm T/2.1 S35 lens consists of twelve elements in ten groups. The aperture mechanism consists of eleven aperture blades, and the minimum focus distance is 48cm.

The outside diameter of the lens is 80mm, which is cinema standard. If you have a clamp-on matte box – such as the Tilta Mini Mattebox – it should work just fine. Also, you can screw 77mm filters directly in front of the lens.

    Price and Availability

The Meike 35mm T/2.1 S35-Prime should be available in late September for $539.99. We will update this article with B&H and CVP buy links when the lens becomes available.

What do you think about this new 35mm T/2.1 S35-Prime? Are you already shooting with Meike lenses? Don’t hesitate to let us know in the comments below!
