Numerous YouTubers and vloggers use Canon G cameras to create daily content, and the updated Canon PowerShot G7X Mark III and G5X Mark II are here to help. Both cameras can now shoot 4K videos and go up to 120 frames per second in FHD using a 1″ 20.2 megapixel CMOS sensor. Let’s take a closer look.

    Main Features

If you are not familiar with the Canon PowerShot G series of camera, this is a line of point-and-shoot cameras. These cameras are especially useful for vloggers and photographers on the move. Both cameras have a lot of similarities in terms of functionalities. Indeed, here are the main features of both cameras:

    • 20.1 megapixel 1″ CMOS sensor.
    • New DIGIC 8 image processor with in-camera digital stabilization.
    • 4K UHD recording up to 29.97 frames per second. Full HD recording up to 120 frames per second.
    • Videos are recorded as MP4 files, using a MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 codec.
    • Built-in 3-stop ND filter and 3.5mm audio jack input.
    • Clean HDMI output for external recording and streaming purposes.
    • 31-point autofocus system with face detection and object tracking. If you want, you can adjust the focus with the front dial even after the AF has locked to the subject.
    • Bluetooth and Wi-Fi wireless connectivity to a mobile device/smartphone.
    • For photographers, there is an impressing RAW Burst Mode at 30 fps. Both cameras shoot RAW pictures using Canon’s CR3 format.
    • There is an exposure compensation dial, various control rings and control dials to control the camera more comfortably.
    • You can charge the in-camera battery directly from the camera’s USB port.

This upgrade is very promising and well overdue to the previous models. Indeed, the Canon PowerShot G7X Mark III and G5X Mark II feature a built-in lens, and it’s one of the main difference between the two cameras.

The Canon PowerShot G5X Mark II doesn’t have the live stream feature of the G7X Mark III, but it features a slightly longer 5x optical zoom (35mm equivalent: 24-120mm) with the same F/1.8-2.8 aperture range.
