SANDMARC recently released two lighting solutions for smartphone filmmakers in the new SANDMARC Prolight collection. Primarily made for iPhone shooters, the SANDMARC Prolight lineup consists of the Prolight RGB and the Prolight Bi-Color. These two battery-powered fixtures are slightly bigger than a credit card and can run at full brightness for around 90 minutes. Let’s take a closer look at this lighting solution for smartphones! SANDMARC Prolight – Features The SANDMARC Prolight lineup consists of two LED lights: the Prolight RGB and the Prolight Bi-Color. Both fixtures feature very similar dimensions: 4.4″ x 2.8″ x 0.53″/112 x 71 x 13.5mm for the RGB version, while the Bi-Color one is thinner at just 0.4″/10mm. These compact lights should not take too much space in your pocket or camera bag for a minimal weight of only 190g (RGB)/147g (Bi-Color), which is nice. Image credit: SANDMARC Also, both lights have a built-in 3000 mAh battery and draw 15W of power. You can expect a battery life of around 90 minutes on the RGB, and 100 minutes on the Bi-Color, at 100% brightness, according to SANDMARC. To recharge the light, there is a USB Type-C port on top of the fixture, next to the power button. Image credit: SANDMARC The CRI of the Prolight RGB is rated at 96+, which is color-accurate for such a compact light. Also, you can dim it from 1% to 100%, and the color temperature can go from 1.000 to 10.000K. Image credit: SANDMARC Of course, these SANDMARC Prolight are not the brightest LED fixtures on the market with a maximum output of 770 Lux for the RGB, and 1500 Lux for the Bi-Color. However, they should improve your results in low-light situations, or as accent lights. The SANDMARC Pole – Film Edition and SANDMARC Film Rig Image credit: SANDMARC SANDMARC Prolight – Smartphone Mounting Solutions The SANDMARC Prolight lineup is compatible with SANDMARC’s existing line of gear, including the SANDMARC Pole – Film Edition and Film Rig. The SANDMARC Pole is excellent for single light use and as a selfie stick. The Film Rig allows you to mount two lights in one setup via the 1/4-20″ standard mounting thread on the bottom of the Prolight. Also, the Film Rig will enable you to use a GoPro or any compact camera in addition to the iPhone. Image credit: SANDMARC There is a little display at the back of the unit that indicates the remaining battery life, the brightness, and the color temperature. You can adjust the brightness and color temperature via a wheel on the right side of the Prolight. Pricing and Availability The SANDMARC Prolight are currently in the pre-order stage and should start shipping by the end of July.
